Disable Restart Prompt After Installing Windows Updates

After you install the new Windows update, you usually get a prompt message which says “Do you want to restart your computer now” and this message keeps repeating every 10 minutes until you restart. Get rid of this message with a simple method.
You will be in middle of something running several programs, but then the Windows update is downloaded in the background and gives a message “Do you want to restart the computer now?” and gives an option either “Restart Now” or “Restart Later” if you hit the later then it becomes annoying when this message gets repeated every 10 minutes you hit this button.

To get rid of this annoying windows prompt message, try the following method:

1. Click Start --> Run and open the Run Window.
2. Type “gpedit.msc” to open the Group Policy
3. Click Local Computer Policy --> Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Windows Update and double click “Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations” as shown below.

4. You will see a window like the below picture. You can either choose “Disabled” or choose “Enabled” and change a time period more than 10 minutes in the window for restart time.

5. Click OK to exit this Group Policy

Now you are all set, no more annoying windows popping up and disturbing your work. If the computer really needed to be started because of a virus update, it is advisable to close all your programs and restart the computer manually.
