Google Books: Embed Book Clips Into Websites

Google Books released a new feature, where you can embed book clips or quotes of your favorite authors directly on website. Instead of just quoting the text, you can get an image of the quote directly from the book.

Image Version of Book Clip and Text Version of Book Clip Below:
Discourses of Epictetus By Epictetus, George Long OF all the faculties except that which I shaH soon mention you will find not one which is capable of contemplating itself and consequently not capable either of approving or disapproving How far does the grammatic art possess the contemplating power As far as forming a judgment about what is written and spoken And how far music As far as judging about melody Does either of them then contemplate itself By no means But when you must write something to your friend grammar will tell you what words you should write but whether you should write or not grammar will not tell you And so it is with music as to musical sounds but whether should at the time and on the

The image and text versions of the book clips of Epictetus, ancient Greek Philosopher, are shown here.

Google Books has thousands of books available for view either complete book or portions of it depending upon their availability in public domain. With the new Google Books tool feature you can add book clips directly on your site.

The new tool can be found in the upper menu bar as shown circled in the picture, just choose the content after you click this grab tool. After you finish grabbing the picture, it will give you two options, one image or text versions and then you can copy the embed codes and paste it in your site. The text version however doesn’t have good formatting, I think it uses OCR reader to convert the PDF into text, the formatting gets lost in the process.

So, when the user is interested in this book, they can double click the image and read the book in Google Books or download it free if they are available in public domain.

Let me know if you have any questions.

It is a good tool, but if you want to quote more than a page length or if it straddles more than two pages then you have to choose two coded images.
