How to pair a remote with Roku 3 player

I was unable to pair the remote with a used Roku 3 player my friend bought. First, I changed the batteries in the remote and pushed the pair button for 10 to 20 seconds; it didn't pair at first. But, after I reset the Roku 3 (the pen didn't work, but I used a pin that I use to reset routers) like the tech blogger in the video suggested, it restarted and paired with the remote automatically. Now, both of them work fine.
